La Tahzan Becomes Case Study for Mental Health and Relationships Discussion at MDTV Goes to Campus UPJ

Bintaro, South Tangerang, August 18, 2025 — Universitas Pembangunan Jaya (UPJ), through its Department of Communication and Psychology, in strategic collaboration with MDTV, convened the academic event MDTV Goes to Campus under the thematic focus The Anatomy of Betrayal: Understanding the Complexity of Infidelity. Held at the UPJ Auditorium, the program critically examined the phenomenon of betrayal within interpersonal relationships, utilizing the film La Tahzan: Love, Sin, and Wounds as a central case study. The cinematic narrative was subsequently analyzed through a psychological lens to elucidate the multifaceted nature of infidelity.

The event drew participation from undergraduate cohorts within the Communication Studies and Psychology programs, alongside faculty members from UPJ. The session was moderated by Naurissa Biasini, Head of the Communication Studies Program, and featured a distinguished panel of speakers:

  • Marshanda, actress portraying Alina in La Tahzan
  • Elmand, actor portraying Anggi
  • Astrid Suryatenggara, Chief Communication Officer, MD Entertainment
  • Dian Sasmita, Associate Producer, La Tahzan
  • Maria Jane Tienoviani Simanjuntak, M.Psi., Lecturer in Psychology, UPJ

In her address, Marshanda articulated a tripartite framework for psychological recovery following betrayal:

  • Admit & Aware – Acknowledging one’s identity and intrinsic self-worth
  • Detox – Releasing emotional encumbrances and adverse experiences
  • Reborn – Cultivating an empowered and resilient self

“These three steps enable individuals to rise and reconstruct their self-confidence,” Marshanda affirmed.

Elmand underscored the significance of transparent communication and sustained mindfulness as foundational elements for nurturing relational commitment.

Maria Jane Tienoviani Simanjuntak, M.Psi., emphasized that self-awareness constitutes the cornerstone of sound decision-making in contexts marked by relational betrayal.
“Awareness is the initial step. Upon recognizing the toxicity of a relationship, one must summon the courage to enact protective measures for oneself and those close to them,” she stated.

Naurissa Biasini, Head of the Communication Studies Program, highlighted the pedagogical value of the initiative:
“Film serves as a potent medium for interrogating social and psychological constructs. This discourse invites students to reconceptualize infidelity not merely as a moral transgression, but as a psychologically intricate phenomenon,” she explained.

In addition to its academic objectives, the event functioned as a promotional platform for La Tahzan: Love, Sin, and Wounds, which is scheduled for nationwide theatrical release across Indonesia beginning August 14, 2025.
