Showcase 6.0 Exhibition Becomes a Medium for Academic Presentations by UPJ Product Design Students
Bintaro, South Tangerang, July 12, 2025 — Annual Product Design Exhibition at UPJ: A Multidisciplinary Exploration of Diversity in Design
The Product Design Program at Universitas Pembangunan Jaya (UPJ) is convening its annual exhibition, Showcase 6.0, from 1 to 4 July 2025, situated in the Lobby of Building A on the UPJ Campus. Adopting the theme “Exploration in Design: Crafting Through Diversity,” the exhibition serves as an academic platform to present design works developed by students from the 2021 to 2024 cohorts, with a primary emphasis on methodological inquiry, contextual exploration, and value-oriented design practices.
Spearheaded entirely by the student body, the event epitomizes a multidisciplinary ethos in developing design solutions attuned to the exigencies of urban communities. Exhibited works encompass a diverse range of categories, including urban facilities, fashion artifacts, jewelry, educational toys, and thematic merchandise.
According to Kaila, coordinator of the Public Relations Division, Showcase 6.0 transcends mere visual presentation; it constitutes a comprehensive documentation of the students' design-thinking processes and praxis throughout their academic journey.
“We seek to invite the broader public to gain deeper insight into the mechanics of product design, the pedagogical structure underlying students' learning, and design’s contribution to social and functional realms,” Kaila remarked during the event.
Each displayed project is accompanied by a curatorial narrative, elucidating the design’s intent, developmental process, and relevance to the issues it seeks to address. This integrative approach enables audiences to perceive design not solely as an aesthetic endeavor but as a strategic mechanism for problem-solving.
The exhibition also represents UPJ’s strategic commitment to enhancing public literacy surrounding the discipline of product design and fostering discourse between emerging designers and stakeholders in the creative sector.
“We envision the exhibition not as a terminus of visual engagement but as a conduit for future collaborations—be they with communities, industries, or academic institutions,” Kaila added.
Under the thematic banner Crafting Through Diversity, the exhibition encapsulates the plurality of design methodologies, cultural contexts, and production techniques cultivated within the academic environment. As such, Showcase 6.0 emerges as a critical archive, demonstrating students’ responsiveness to contemporary design challenges through reflexive and solution-oriented approaches.
