UPJ Visual Communication Design Student's Story Achieves Scholarship for Master of Global Business Program at Monash University Indonesia

Bintaro, South Tangerang, 21/01/2025 - Naufal Badalsyafiq, an alumnus of Visual Communication Design (DKV) Universitas Pembangunan Jaya (UPJ), made a proud achievement by winning a full scholarship (100%) from Monash University, Indonesia. Currently, he is pursuing a Master of Global Business (MGB) program at the prestigious university.

“It's a mixed feeling of joy and disbelief. But, I realize this is a big responsibility. I am very motivated to make the most of this opportunity,” Naufal said in an interview.

The process of winning this scholarship began with a zoom session facilitated by UPJ to introduce Monash University, Indonesia and its programs. “The application process was relatively easy. I only went through one interview and an English test. Unlike other scholarships that usually require a lot of files and additional stages,” she said.

Support from UPJ, according to Naufal, played an important role in his success. “Pembangunan Jaya University has a big role! The lecturers provide extraordinary support, both in academic guidance and information on scholarship opportunities. In fact, this scholarship is the result of official cooperation between Monash University, Indonesia and UPJ,” he added.

In addition, UPJ through the Bureau of Cooperation, Public Relations, and Internationalization also collaborates with Monash University, Indonesia in the Masterclass program. This program brings lecturers from Monash to fill one class session in various UPJ study programs, providing international insights to students.

As an MGB student, Naufal prepared himself by familiarizing himself with conversations in English and keeping abreast of global geopolitical, economic and innovation trends. He plans to develop his startup to compete in the international market.

“I want to work in the creative industry, especially in events and community. With the knowledge I gained at Monash, I hope to bring this startup to the global arena,” Naufal said optimistically.

UPJ's Vice Rector I for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Ir. Agustinus Agus Setiawan, S.T., M.T., IPM, expressed his pride in Naufal's achievement. “Naufal's achievement shows that UPJ students are able to compete at the global level. UPJ is committed to supporting students' academic and professional mobility through collaboration with world-class universities,” he said.

In line with that, UPJ DKV Study Program Head Retno Purwanti M. S.Sn., M.Ds. added, “We in the DKV study program always encourage students to explore their potential to the fullest, including providing academic guidance and training that is relevant to the needs of the creative industry.”

For students who want to follow in his footsteps, Naufal gave some tips. “Being confident speaking in English is very important. In addition, show concrete plans that are relevant to the study program, and make sure the interview answers reflect our true personality,” he explained.

Ending the interview, Naufal expressed his appreciation to his alma mater. “Thank you very much to UPJ and all those who have supported me. Hopefully I can bring the good name of the university in the international arena,” he concluded.
