Clara Evi C. Citraningtyas, Ph.D., as Project Director, explained that Rara Janitra is an important effort in revitalizing Indonesian folklore for today's generation. “The character of Rara Janitra symbolizes courage, honesty, and collaboration. Not only that, this story also gives a deep message to men that collaborating and accepting women's help is a strength, not a weakness,” Clara said enthusiastically.
In this modern version, Rara Janitra is no longer told as a character cursed to become stone or manipulate a false dawn. Instead, she emerges as an inspirational figure who breaks ancient stereotypes and brings educational messages that are relevant to all. The moral messages delivered were not only inspiring, but also evoked the spirit of cross-gender collaboration.
The enthusiasm of the participants was felt throughout the event, with many appreciations flowing from various circles. Rizki Ramadani, a UPJ student, shared her impression, “The animation was cool! A very memorable experience and opened new insights.” Samuel Dinata, a student of SMK Tarsisius Verita, added, “This story is relevant to today's values and very educative, especially for the younger generation.” Meanwhile, Afgan from SMK 5 stated, “This story and performance are very interesting. I hope UPJ continues to present similar innovations that inspire many people".
The launch of Rara Janitra animation strengthens UPJ's commitment in combining art, technology, and cultural values. With a modern approach, folklore can remain relevant, inspiring, and educational in the digital era. This event is also a tangible proof of UPJ's dedication in supporting the development of student creativity and the preservation of local culture.
By presenting innovations such as Rara Janitra, UPJ not only contributes to the world of education but also to the strengthening of Indonesia's cultural identity in the midst of rapid technological development.
