Students of UPJ Learn About International Cooperation and the Role of Media in Germany
Bintaro, Tangerang Selatan 02/10/2024 – International cooperation is becoming increasingly important in addressing complex global challenges such as climate change and sustainable development. Threats like global warming, rising CO₂ emissions, and economic and social inequality require strong collaboration between nations to formulate effective strategies and policies.
As part of efforts to understand these critical roles, participants of the Cologne Summer School 2024, including students from Universitas Pembangunan Jaya (UPJ), visited the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung, BMZ) in Bonn. This visit provided first-hand insights into Germany's contributions to supporting global sustainable development, including its cooperation with Indonesia. BMZ plays a key role in funding and guiding programs aimed at addressing climate change, promoting decent work, and protecting citizens' rights, particularly in vulnerable areas such as Papua.
"Seeing how BMZ operates and its contributions to sustainable development was truly inspiring. I now have a deeper understanding of how important international collaboration is in tackling global issues like climate change," shared one UPJ student.
In addition to deepening their knowledge of international policies and initiatives, the visit emphasized the importance of individual roles in creating a more sustainable and equitable world.
After lunch, the participants continued their visit to Deutsche Welle (DW), a leading German television station known for its high-quality journalism. This visit offered in-depth insights into the role of media in disseminating accurate information with global impact. DW, as an international media outlet, demonstrates a strong commitment to ecological, economic, and social issues, maintaining its credibility as a responsible news source.
"I was impressed by how DW not only reports the news but also contributes to shaping positive public opinion on sustainability and global issues. It made me more aware of the vital role media plays," remarked one participant.
After completing these two visits, the Cologne Summer School 2024 participants had the opportunity to explore the city of Bonn, which is rich in history and culture. One of the highlights was the University of Bonn, founded in 1818 by King Frederick William III, which is now one of the leading educational institutions in Germany and the world. This experience enriched the participants' journey throughout the program, providing them with valuable new insights.
