UPJ Architecture Students Achieve Third Place in National Design Competition

Semarang, Central Java (10/08/2024) – A remarkable achievement was earned by students from the Architecture Department at Universitas Pembangunan Jaya (UPJ), who secured third place in the Graha Padma Semarang Residential Gate and Road Corridor Design Idea Competition. This competition was organized by the Indonesian Institute of Architects (IAI) of Central Java and was open to registered professional architects across Indonesia.

The competition attracted many professional architects from various regions. However, the spotlight was on the participation of UPJ students, namely Aditiya Hermansyah, Muhammad Khairul Fahmi, Ramadhan Putra Hidayat, and Muhammad Nabil Hakim. Guided by their lecturers Ar. Melania L. Pandiangan, IAI, and Titus A. Kurniawan, MT., this student team successfully made it into the top five nominations after undergoing a rigorous judging process from August 1 to 9, 2024.

The top five participants were invited to present their designs directly at Graha Padma Semarang on August 10, 2024. The UPJ student team presented an innovative design concept that accommodated the needs of a strategic, comfortable, and developing residential area. The road corridor concept with a complex spatial program that matched the area's image received high appreciation from the judges, including professional architects Ar. Rida Sobana, Director of DP Architect Indonesian Region, Ar. Ardzuna Sinaga, Urban+, and in-house architects from Graha Padma.

This competition aimed to gather design ideas that could reflect the image and branding of Graha Padma Semarang Residential Area as a representative and sustainable housing area. Despite competing with professionals, the UPJ students managed to showcase their equally competitive skills and brought home a prestigious award.

This success demonstrates that UPJ students, with the support and guidance of their lecturers, can compete at a national level and contribute to the development of quality architectural designs. This achievement is expected to inspire other students to continue creating and innovating in the field of architecture.
