Learning Innovation: Universitas Pembangunan Jaya Enhances Lecturer Competence through the Lecturer Improvement Series

Bintaro, South Tangerang (August 13, 2024) – The Teaching and Learning Division of the Learning Support and Enhancement (LSE) at Universitas Pembangunan Jaya held the second session of the lecturer pedagogy program as part of the Lecturer Improvement Series, focusing on the theme of Learning Innovation. This event aims to strengthen the quality of Human Resources (HR), especially lecturers, in carrying out their duties in the field of education, specifically teaching and learning.

The event took place over three days, from August 7 to 9, 2024, at the Auditorium on the 3rd floor of Building B, Universitas Pembangunan Jaya, South Tangerang. On the first day, Prof. Ir. Teddy Mantoro, Ph.D., was the guest speaker and presented material on Learning Innovation as a Strategy to Achieve Learning Targets. In his presentation, he emphasized that planning the learning process, as outlined in the quality document of the Semester Learning Plan (RPS), needs to consider clear and measurable learning targets. Additionally, the importance of lecturers selecting appropriate teaching methods directly impacts the success of achieving these targets.

On the second day, Mohamad Trio Febriyantoro, S.E., M.M., Ph.D., served as the guest speaker and provided material on the Utilization of Digital Learning, such as Coursera, to support the quality of learning content. He also conducted training on how to create a course builder on the Coursera platform integrated with Moodle.

On the final day, Felix Pasila, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., Felecia, S.T., M.Sc., and the digital team from Petra Christian University, Surabaya, delivered material on the Development of AI-Based Learning Content and Gamification. The importance of leveraging AI in developing learning materials provides opportunities for lecturers to continue innovating and preparing students for the dynamic workforce. During the training session, the Petra Digital team gave lecturers the opportunity to use AI engines like Elwyn and e-Journey to process AI-based and gamified learning content. In addition to creating learning content, lecturers were also taught how to enhance student engagement through quiz management.

Safitri Jaya, S.Kom., M.T.I., Head of the Teaching and Learning Division - LSE and chairperson of the pedagogical training committee, stated, "Lecturers need to adapt to the learning needs of the 21st century, one of which is through innovation in teaching methods and content development." This pedagogy training not only facilitated the increase of knowledge from the speakers but also improved the attitudes and skills of lecturers through hands-on training sessions.
