Kick-off Meeting at UNIMAS: Civil Engineering Collaboration Between UNIMAS and UPJ for EACEF 2025

Bintaro, South Tangerang, 14/08/2024 – On August 8, 2024, a kick-off meeting took place at the Main Meeting Room, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), marking the beginning of preparations for the 9th International Conference Euro Asia Civil Engineering Forum (EACEF) 2025.

This meeting initiated a collaboration between the Faculty of Civil Engineering at UNIMAS and Universitas Pembangunan Jaya (UPJ), Indonesia, as co-hosts of this prestigious event.

The UPJ delegation attending the meeting included Prof. Dr.-Ing. Harianto Hardjasaputera, Prof. Dr. Frederik J. Putuhena, and Dr. Ir. Lukas Sihombing. During the meeting, it was agreed that the conference would be held on the campus of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, in the city of Samarahan, KUCHING - Sarawak, on September 9-11, 2025. UNIMAS eagerly embraced the role of host for this international conference. "We are very enthusiastic about this collaboration, as it will have a positive impact on both institutions, particularly in the development of research and innovation in Civil Engineering," said Prof. Dr.-Ing. Harianto Hardjasaputera.

The kick-off meeting was also attended by several key figures from UNIMAS, including Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Prof. Ir. Dr. Hjh Siti Noor Linda Bt Hj Taib, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Norazzlina Binti M. Sa’don, Head of the Civil Engineering Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norsuzailina Mohamed Sutan, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alsidqi Hasan, along with the organizing committee from UNIMAS. "We are proud to host such a significant event, and we hope it will serve as a platform to strengthen international networks in the field of civil engineering," said Prof. Ir. Dr. Hjh Siti Noor Linda Bt Hj Taib.

EACEF is a leading international conference in the field of Civil Engineering, aimed not only at civil engineering experts but also involving industry players, academics, and students from various countries in Asia, Europe, and other regions. Since its inaugural event in 2007, EACEF has successfully held eight conferences in major cities, including Jakarta, Langkawi (Malaysia), Yogyakarta, Singapore, Surabaya, Seoul (South Korea), Stuttgart (Germany), and Rapperswil (Switzerland).

With this agreement, UNIMAS and UPJ are ready to welcome participants from around the world at an event that will bring together the best minds in civil engineering to share knowledge, ideas, and the latest innovations. "This will be an extraordinary opportunity to broaden horizons and foster the advancement of knowledge in civil engineering," said Prof. Dr. Frederik J. Putuhena.

Additionally, during the same visit, the UPJ and UNIMAS delegations were received by the Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuching, Mr. Raden Sigit Witjaksono, at his office. He expressed his full support for the International Conference EACEF and agreed to deliver an opening address at the event.
